Job Description
The client is looking for a number of FTTx Field Supervisors to work a 6 month extendable contract based in Cornwall.
Job Purpose:
- The FTTx Field Supervisor reports into the Rollout PM/Construction Manager and is responsible for ensuring that all field activities (Cable works, splicing and testing,) are carried out in accordance with agreed designs, working practices in line with all necessary Health and Safety requirements and to the necessary quality.
Responsibilities:
- Daily on site supervision of installation / build progress according to agreed milestones, assuring the required quality in the deployment by the appointed subcontractors
- Review and interpret Build pack and ensure all documentation is in line with applicable requirements and conduct construction walkthrough with key stakeholders
- Ensure the latest version of Build Pack, method statements, procedures and relevant requirements are being used and facilitate this to subcontractors in order to monitor compliance throughout the lifecycle of the deployment
- Validate any variation or change in the deployment that has impact to cost or schedule is supported by an approved change
- Report any variation or change not already supported by an approved change
- Ensures all necessary materials have been ordered / delivered prior to start the work
- Supervise execution of the works based on the issued Build pack
- Manage subcontractor engagement and assure the availability of subcontractor resources needed to fulfil the planned and agreed milestones
- Ensure all subcontractor resources have the required level of expertise and accreditation/qualifications
- Ensure daily progress tracking with subcontractor including the updates on the relevant tools (e.g. RoT/WF). Approve / Reject works completed by subcontractor on the relevant tools
- Responsible for acceptance of all works delivered up to and including site handover by the subcontractor
- Ensure all deliverables are delivered with acceptable quality
- Ensure all As-Built documentation and updates are timely provided by the subcontractors. Review and accept or reject As-Built submissions
- Develop and maintain relationships and establish required communication with key stakeholders (Road authorities, Municipalities, Asset owners, Internal Nokia support teams, …)
- Develop, coach and monitor the HSE performance of our subcontractor partners
- Enforce adherence to Nokia HSE standards and lifesaving rules with all subcontractors and ensure the safety of the public is met.
- Conducts onsite quality, H&S and risk assessments. Identify any issues and take necessary corrective actions
- Preparation of HSE statistics and basic reports
- Ensure compliance to the required legislative requirement with regard to external civils standards and qualifications such as NRSWA, including compliance to essential health and safety provisioning, using signing, lighting and guarding techniques
- Support with the investigation of any penalty charges or other local authority or regulatory body enforcement notices.
- Support the Project H&S Manager with enforcement actions and developing a positive safety culture on our sites.
- Review material forecasts with Material Manager
- Track material usage based on site BOM. Ensure that the subcontractor reports in relevant tools the actual usage, shortages/damaged/lost material, excess material carried over to other sites or returned to Nokia warehouse. Ensure the subcontractor handling of waste material as per the existing and applicable legislation.
- Provide immediate solutions on issues identified or escalate to Nokia appointed SME’s or management during deployment
- Supervise tests execution conducted by the subcontractors and ensure the submission of relevant test documentation and assure quality of the build
- Responsible for all deliverables and conducting of the customer acceptance process for assigned sites
- Identify, report and monitor project risks both within and outside of work domain
- Identifies, reports and support up-scopes with the Customer Project Management team
- Identifies, reports and support cost improvement and efficiency improvement opportunities.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Full UK driving license
- Previous supervisory experience on large UK FTTx projects
- Good understanding of FTTx architecture and designs
- Demonstrates initiative with regards to Problem Solving
- Confident and natural communicator with an inspiring quality
- A detailed understanding of method statements and risk assessments
- Full and comprehensive knowledge of CDM Regulations
- Fluent in English language (reading, written, and spoken)
Mandatory certification / accreditation below:
- SA001 Safety Overhead
- SA002 Safety Underground
- NRSWA Supervisor level
- SSSTS/SMSTS Qualification desirable
- Asbestos Awareness
- Knowledge of Openreach PIA processes, procedures and accreditation requirements
- Highway Sector Schemes training relevant and applicable to low and high speeds roads
- Sound knowledge and experience of H&S practices for traffic management, excavations and underground asset avoidance.

- MEWPs for managers course (desirable for aerial works)
