Job Description
The client is looking for a 2G / 3G RF Optimization Engineer (Ericsson Equipment) to work a 6 month rolling contract based in Kenya (Nairobi).
Job description (Ericson expertise is mandatory):
- Responsible for maximizing the performance and coverage of a mobile network’s 2G / 3G radio access network by analysing data, identifying issues, and adjusting various parameters like signal strength, antenna tilt, and cell site configurations to optimize call quality, data throughput, and overall network performance across a designated area; essentially ensuring efficient use of radio spectrum to deliver the best possible 4G service to users.
Responsibilities:
- Data analysis and reporting:
- Collecting and analyzing network performance data from drive tests, network monitoring tools, and other sources to identify coverage gaps, interference issues, and capacity bottlenecks.
- Generating comprehensive reports on network performance metrics like dropped call rates, signal strength, throughput, and user experience.
- Radio parameter optimization:
- Adjusting key radio parameters like cell site power levels, antenna tilt angles, sectorization settings, and cell reselection parameters to improve coverage and capacity based on data analysis.
- Implementing feature optimization based on network conditions and user behavior.
- Network troubleshooting:
- Investigating and resolving customer complaints related to poor call quality, slow data speeds, and network coverage issues.
- Identifying and addressing network interference from other cell sites or environmental factors.
- Site planning and optimization:
- Participating in the planning and deployment of new cell sites to ensure optimal network coverage and capacity.
- Performing site surveys to identify potential issues and recommend adjustments to existing cell sites.
- Collaboration and communication:
- Working closely with network planning engineers, operations teams, and customer service to identify network performance issues and implement solutions.
- Presenting network performance data and optimization recommendations to stakeholders.
Required skills and qualifications:
- Strong understanding of 2G / 3G RF network architecture, radio protocols, and key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Expertise in radio network optimization tools and software (e.g., drive test analysis tools, network management systems)
- Experience with RF propagation modelling and site survey techniques
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills to effectively convey technical information
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
